short urls
Hello world!
I am fascinated by short URLs at the moment. They’re like poetry to me, artfully crafted and cared for. At least they should be. But too many URLs disappear into the void, never to be seen again. Link rot gets the better of them.
I’ll be the first to admit that I got this domain name for its brevity and wordplay. I am a sucker for such things, apparently. I know it’s vain, but it gives me joy and it sparkles a curiosity, a certain level of playfulness in line with the indieweb’s values, so that’s worth something.
I’ve given a lot of thought to what this new blog will be about. I reckon it will be just for me, my interests and hobbies. A digital garden of sorts. We’ll see what will grow out of it, if anything at all. I want to have fun with it, that’s the most important thing.
(This stands in stark contrast to my previous work as a marketer, where every single page was optimised to the full and measured to the max. I am looking forward to this change in perspective.)
But! Be weary of going down the domain name rabbit hole. Getting domains is seductive and it can act as a distraction as well. I am still looking up domain names for fun, but for now I want to explore what this domain name has to offer. A fresh perspective. A new take. And a chance for me to be human again.
PS. I’m writing this on my mobile phone. No editing. I’m hitting publish anyway, because I want to get into the habit of sharing my process openly. Perhaps someone else can benefit, even if that person is future me.
PPS. The url and post are inspired by Derek Sivers’ sive.rs/su for short URLs. Poetic, beautiful. Let’s give our URLs the love and attention they deserve!
